Hard Surface Art and Design
Capstone Project: Workshop
My workshop, “Hard Surface Art and Design” is a semester-long deep-dive into the core components of concept art. With a focus on creating realistic looking machines, buildings and constructs, every week we’ll look into science and engineering behind real-world machines, and learn how even the infinitely complex can be accomplished and designed. Then, for the second half of each class, we’ll put our knowledge into practice and dream up entirely new, but inspired designs which would look and feel right at home in a AAA studio. While I make an effort to provide something for students of all backgrounds and interests, the course will appeal most directly to sci-fi fans, hands-on learners and designers. After attending this workshop, students should learn what it means to “think like an engineer”, how to reference the real-world, where the rules of design lie and how to break them, how to break designs down into manageable pieces and most importantly, how to present your work.
